If Rome wasn't built in one day....how come we tried to see it in one? Rome was awesome! We arrived at 6:30 a.m. (with a 6 hour time difference from home) and met our Portuguese speaking tour guide. We walked the ruins of Old Rome and saw so many things! Including the Flavius Amphitheater better known as the Colosseum!
It was chilly for us Brazilians at 12 degrees C, although sunny and windy.
We walked down the Via Sacra to the temple of Saturn and under the Arches of Triumph of Titus; Severus, and Constantine. We saw the place where the Apostle Paul was imprisoned for 2 years and the traditional site of his death and burial.
We visited the movie famous "Fuente di Trevi" and had riggatoni lunch at an Italian Pasta House called "La Tana Dei Re" Ristorante. The Tiramissu for desert was fantastic!
We also visited St. Peter's Square at the Vatican
Back to the airport in the evening for our 10:30 p.m. flight to Cairo. A very full, exciting day of sight-seeing and learning...but starting to get really ready for a bed! It has been 52 hours since we last laid down during our Sunday afternoon nap! And still a 3 hour flight to Cairo and another 2 hours for customs and transfer to our hotel!
