Israel Trip - Day 3

Wednesday - April 25, 2012
Egypt was exotic! We got to sleep in until 9:30 a.m. (from 4:45 a.m.) and awoke feeling amazingly refreshed! The view from our hotel was breath-taking as we could see the pyramids! We had never stayed in a 5-star hotel before so we were in for a treat at the Mercure Le-Sphinx in Cairo!
We visited the 3 great pyramids and learned a lot about Egypt's amazing history.
Lawanda was brave enough to try camel riding!
The Sphinx and Necropolis were interesting and informative!
So was the visit to an essence shop where we saw how essence is made from flowers and were able to purchase some pure myrrh! It smells fantastic!
Egypt is an Arab country and going through political turmoil right now. Conditions were much poorer than Italy. There were goats all over the streets and taxi vans with doors and hoods tied on with rope! The food was spicier than we had imagined. Not "Mexican spicy" but seasoned with Syrian pepper and cumin. The desserts are delicious pastries.
At night we had a romantic dinner cruise on the Nile River. A nice close to an event-filled day. Back to the hotel at 10:30 for a good night's sleep!
