Israel Trip - Day 13 - Massada/Qumran/Dead Sea

Saturday, May 5, 2012
Today is the "Shabbat" for the Jews and there are even special elevators at the hotel, programmed to stop on every floor so that they don't have to "work" on the Sabbath by pushing buttons! It is much quicker to take the stairs today! Our adventures took us to Massada.
We took a cable car to the top and visited the ruins of the place of the last stand of the Jews against Rome. Such a bittersweet part of history where men chose death over slavery!
One thing I found very interesting was the way that they provided meat for all during the 2 year they were surrounded.
They raised pigeons/doves! The Roman soldiers couldn't keep the birds from flying in!
We went to the lowest place on the earth!
And to the caves of Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found.
We saw parts of the scrolls of Isaiah. It is wonderful to see how God preserved His Word!
In the afternoon we went to Kahali Beach on the Dead Sea.
And yes, it is true that one floats! I experienced it!
Back to Jerusalem to watch the sun set on the Sabbath...
And to see all kinds of Jews coming from the synagogues as they finished their Sabbath.
