Here is the view we awoke to at the rustic Morganland Hotel at Sinai. We left after a delicious breakfast and drove to the place where Aaron and the children of Israel made the golden calf.
There is this sculpture on the rocks there. Some say that Aaron made it as a reminder of the golden calf; others say that the Christians of the 4th century made it to remember the location. May I propose a third suggestion? Umm...wind, rain and a good imagination!
We traveled for miles along the Red Sea seeing many health resorts, fancy villas, and natural pools.
We saw Saladino's castle in the Red Sea. We could see the country of Saudi Arabia on the other side and further along, the country of Jordan.
We made friends along the way and shared jokes and experiences with the group. The last 2 1/2 hours in Egypt we had to travel in a 3-bus convoy with an armed army escort in front and another behind to protect us from attacks to tourists recently in the area.
It took us 4 hours to get through customs and in to Israel! I wish I could have taken pictures of the lines of hundreds of people but it was a secure military area and no photos were allowed. We finally made it to the Rimmonim Hotel in Eilat for our first night in Israel!
We were assigned room 303 and on the doorpost was a Mazuzah (a little case containing a parchment roll of Scripture). It is to remind the Jews that the Lord God is One! We discovered these on every door of every hotel and restaurant, and even public places like museums in Israel! (except bathrooms and closets).
Here is my favorite photo of the day....the view of Sinai from our hotel window in Saint Catherine, Egypt.
